Psychological Services

As a psychologist, I look at various areas around a child/ individual/ couple/ family that may have an impact on their wellbeing, learning and development (family, friends, teachers, internal psychological processes, relational interactions, developmental tasks and broader influences).

Depending on the need, we want to investigate the problem holistically (causes, prevalence, impact, and unique strengths and weaknesses). This process is multi-layered, and takes place over a number of sessions. A clear understanding of the problem can lead to a unique support strategy for the person/unit. An assessment or therapeutic process begins with an initial (parent) interview, specifically to determine what is required going forward.

The process takes place as follows:

Assessments provide information on

  • Intellectual functioning / Scholastic Aptitude
  • Learning Impairments
  • Emotional Wellbeing
  • Development
  • Personality
  • School Readiness
  • Subject Choice / Career Guidance

Therapeutic Intervention aims to address the difficulties identified during assessment through

  • Individual or Group sessions
  • Parent Guidance
  • Family sessions
  • Play / Expressive Therapy
  • Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy
  • Learner Support / Remedial Therapy
  • Life Skills
  • Study Skills
  • Trauma Counselling
